The Good Environmental Status
of the Portuguese Marine Waters

Project SOPHIA contribution to the compliance of MSFD (Marine Strategy Framework Directive) aims is by itself a major factor towards the essential one: the good condition of Portuguese sea waters.
The Project development brings together a set of skills that will enable the preparation of products which will help the proper implementation of monitoring programs and MSFD measures.

Project SOPHIA was designed to allow it to be replicable in other EU countries, such as northeast coastal States sharing a common natural heritage and the responsibility to manage and preserve it.

This project also strengthens bilateral relations with other countries, including EEA Grants donor countries, through existent partnerships between FCUL and marine research institutions from Norway.
