Training route
The main goal of Project SOPHIA is the empowerment of human resources through scientific and technological actions in order to ensure skills for the implementation of the monitoring program and the MSFD (Marine Strategy Framework Directive) measures program.
This empowerment focuses on some of the topics where scientific knowledge and familiarisation with important technics for monitoring sea waters are known to be required.
It intends to provide knowledge on Ecology, Observation of the Earth, Law of the Seas and monitoring tools to Public Administration officers, graduates and postgraduates from research centres, NGOs and private companies involved in the implementation of monitoring programs and MSFD measures in the following areas:
• Deep sea ecology;
• Dynamics of geological platform trophic webs;
• Interpretation of sea related satellite images;
• Geographical information systems for the sea;
• International Law of the sea and implementation of EU Directives.
Training modules offer simultaneously academic qualifications and professional training for the professionals associated to the Public Administration bodies.
At the same time, the website is developed with the purpose to provide open access to the knowledge of reference on areas covered by SOPHIA.
